Fall Doesn't Mean Tick Season Is Over

Cooler mornings, changing leaves, and the start of hunting season may signal the end of summer, but they do not necessarily mean the end of tick activity.

As hunters, hikers and outdoor families spend time in the woods this fall, Defend is reminding outdoor enthusiasts that tick protection should remain part of their routine long after the hottest days of summer have passed.

"Once temperatures start dropping, it's easy to stop thinking about ticks," said Jody Agnew, President and CEO of Defend. "But fall is still a time when hunters and other outdoor users are spending hours walking through grass, brush, and wooded areas where ticks may be present. Protection shouldn't disappear from the checklist just because summer is over."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tick exposure can occur year-round, with many species remaining active during the fall months. Activities such as hunting, hiking, camping and spending time in wooded or brushy areas can increase the likelihood of encountering ticks.

For hunters in particular, fall can mean repeated exposure to tick habitat while scouting, checking trail cameras, hanging stands, tracking game, and spending long hours in the field.

Defend Permethrin is designed to treat clothing and gear, making it a practical option for items such as hunting pants, jackets, socks, boots, packs, and other appropriate outdoor equipment.

Defend Picaridin provides an additional option for repelling ticks and other biting insects for use on the skin.

Both Defend Picaridin and Defend Permethrin are scent free, giving hunters insect protection without adding an unnecessary odor to their hunting routine. For hunters who spend considerable time managing scent in the field, that makes both products an easy fit alongside the rest of their gear.
