Retail Operations Manager- Archery Country, Austin, Texas

Job Summary:

Archery Country in Austin, Texas, has positioned itself as one of the premier archery retail stores in the country. Founded over 40 years ago in Austin, Texas, the fast-growing, family owned Archery Country brand is seeking a professional and experienced Retail Operations Manager to lead its team. This individual will be responsible for maintaining all aspects of an efficient and effective retail store workflow, but also for developing business strategies to grow the brand, increase revenues, and enhance the overall customer experience. The qualified candidate will be joining an Archery Country Team that is comprised of high-energy individuals with creative minds and years of combined experience and skills in the archery and bowhunting community. This is a salary position determined on prior experience and current skills. It also includes a bonus structure based on achieving annual performance targets.

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic retail sales and marketing direction and overall management of the store and retail store employees.
  • Train, mentor, manage and provide senior leadership to a staff of 6 to 8 employees.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of impeccable customer service and in-store customer experience.
  • Collaborate with senior management team to establish quarterly performance goals and KPIs.
  • Monitor, analyze and periodically report on the store’s goals, KPIs, financial performance, and overall performance and condition.
  • Maximize profitability through revenue goals and targets and provide leadership and motivation to staff to attain the determined revenue goals and targets.
  • Provide strategic direction and implementation of store layout and merchandising plan to increase sales and profitability.
  • Handle customer grievances, complaints and issues.
  • Identify current and future customer requirements through means of market feedback and research.
  • Mitigate internal conflict while providing solutions and logical resolutions to the conflict and/or problems.
  • Effectively manage proper inventory levels and inventory turns based on cost and profitability structure, seasonality and product lifecycles.
  • Meet with and build a positive working rapport with manufacturer sales reps maximizing their time and energy on behalf of Archery Country.
  • Build a positive rapport and working relationship with Archery Country represented product manufacturers, maximizing their time and energy on behalf of Archery Country.
  • Ensure all marked retail prices are correct, based on management approval, for all products on the retail floor and in the retail system.
  • Establish an annual special events calendar and manage promotions and effective execution of these events.
  • Work to increase revenue through lessons, classes, range time, and technical services.
  • Work closely with staff to manage social media platforms, website and online and in-store marketing.
  • Work closely with staff to develop effective marketing content both in-store and digitally.
  • Control and deliver Archery Country branded items in-store and through the Archery Country e-commerce platform.
  • Attend the annual Archery Trade Show, and strategically attend worthwhile events (such as Total Archery Challenge) during the year.
  • Provide strategic direction to owners for possible additional locations.
  • Work closely with owners on budgeting and financial analysis.

  • Minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in retail management.
  • Management experience in the hunting/outdoor/archery industry a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Quickbooks and Point of Sale.
  • Understand and be able to analyze financial statements, and the correlation of inventories to Cost of Goods Sold, net income, and cash flow
  • Familiar with and fluent in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multitask and manage stressful scenarios efficiently and effectively.
  • Possess strong leadership and management skills that maximizes the different personality characteristics of the team members individually and collectively.
  • Have a positive attitude and the ability to inspire, lead, mentor and build a strong team.
