75 Years of Bullet Making with Hornady Manufacturing

“Ten bullets through one hole” was the vision of Hornady® Manufacturing founder Joyce Hornady as he searched for quality bullets for his sporting rifles. This necessity brought about the creation of a new bullet company that would go on to bring exciting new bullet designs and, eventually, new cartridges and other excellent shooting products to the industry. Now, 75 years after the founding of Hornady, the legacy is unmatched, and the future is bright.

From humble beginnings on the plains of Nebraska, Hornady grew into the ballistics leader that it is today by staying focused on the customers, shooters, and hunters from across the nation who have the same performance expectations that J.W. Hornady did all those years ago.

Now, under the leadership of Steve Hornady who took over in 1981, Hornady continues to innovate with 75 amazing years of experience and lessons learned. Advancements like InterLock® bullets, LEVERevolution®, Precision Hunter® and Critical Defense® ammunition, and cartridge development of rounds like .17HMR, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm ARC and 300PRC prove that Hornady’s focus is innovation, dependability, and accuracy.

Hornady Manufacturing has come a long way from its start-up days in a rented garage on Fourth Street in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1949. Today, it stands as the largest independently owned maker of bullets, ammunition, and reloading tools in the world. This remarkable growth is a testament to the many things the company has done right throughout its history, and it suggests that the future holds even more promise.

The Hornady Manufacturing Company is truly more than the sum of its employees, equipment, and facilities. A visit to Grand Island, Nebraska, will reveal the family's active involvement in community affairs, their generous philanthropy, and their genuine concern for helping others—including the larger shooting community.
