October 2022 – Firearm & Ammunition Exports

NSSF tracks and reports monthly U.S. export units for several sporting arms, ammunition, and optics categories from the US International Trade Commission. Below are the results for October 2022 compared to October 2021.

October Handgun exports decreased 12.8 percent from 27,894 to 24,329 units. Within the handgun category, Pistol export units decreased 19.4 percent from 24,510 to 19,744 units while exported Revolver units rose 35.5 percent from 3,384 to 4,585 units.
October Rifle exports were up 109.3 percent from 21,577 to 45,151 units.
October Shotgun category posted an 8.6 percent decrease in exported units from 6,622 to 6,054.
October Muzzleloader category increased 73.1 percent from 525 to 909 units exported.
October Other Cartridges (excluding Shotgun cartridges) category increased 148.0 percent from 34.9 million in 2021 to 86.5 million units exported in 2022.
October Shotgun Cartridges category decreased by 37.2 percent dropping to 3.2 million as compared to last year’s 5.1 million.
Telescopic Sights:
- October Telescopic Sights for Rifles (HTS code 9013.10.2000, which includes military use) rose 13.5 percent from 31,802 units to 36,083.
Binoculars:
- October Prism Binoculars [not for use with infrared light] (HTS code 9005.10.0040) decreased 49.8 percent from 31,173 units to 15,662.
- October Binoculars HTS code 9005.10.0080 [Other Binoculars, NESOI] decreased 29.2 percent from 21,052 units to 14,906.
Sound Suppressors: [first posting of new codes implemented by the USITC]
- October Sound Suppressors, Silencers, Mufflers and Similar Devices of Shotguns or Rifles of Heading 9305 (HTS code 9305.20.9100) increased 339.9 percent from 127 in 2021 to 551 units exported in 2022.
- October Parts and Accessories of Shotguns or Rifles of Heading 9305 (HTS code 9305.20.9500) increased 19.5 percent from 84,775 in 2021 to 101,268 units exported in 2022.
