An Abilene, TX Nurse-turned-entrepreneur brings durable, affordable coolers to the outdoor market.
Iceland Cooler, founded by Abilene-based nurse Ryan Beeson, is making waves in the outdoor market with its line of highly insulated rotomolded coolers designed to keep contents cold for days. Drawing inspiration from a memorable trip to Iceland, Beeson has created a product that blends durability, functionality, and affordability—meeting the demands of outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.
Beeson, who moved from Seattle to Texas in 2017 with his wife Seba, initially launched Iceland Cooler as a side venture while continuing his work as a nurse. What began as a small business idea has since grown into a successful operation, with local retailers like Ace Hardware and Higginbotham Brothers stores now carrying Iceland Coolers.
Quality Meets Affordability
The concept behind Iceland Coolers was simple: provide a product comparable in quality to high-end brands like Yeti but at a more affordable price point. "I wanted to offer something just as sturdy and long-lasting but at a price that makes sense," commented Beeson. Iceland Cooler boasts superior insulation, which has been a key selling point for customers. The coolers feature a variety of sizes and models, such as the Viking, Berserker, Longship, and Saga, each with distinct features including camo patterns, built-in bottle openers, and cutting boards.
While comparable brands focus on status, Iceland Cooler emphasizes practicality. "Our claim to fame is the unique designs and added accessories, all at a price that's $30 to $100 less than the competition," Beeson explains.
Inspired by Iceland’s Rugged Landscape
The idea for Iceland Cooler took shape during a backpacking trip across Europe, with Beeson and his wife’s first stop in Iceland. The rugged terrain and cold climate left a lasting impression, inspiring Beeson to project that same toughness and long-lasting chill into his product. “I wanted my coolers to embody the strength and endurance that Iceland represents,” he remarked.
Growing Reach and Support for First Responders
Although Iceland Cooler began locally, the brand’s reach has expanded across the U.S., with sales as far as Guam and Norway. About 70% of Iceland Cooler's business is wholesale, while the remaining 30% comes from online orders. As a first responder himself, Beeson is committed to giving back to the community and offers a 10% discount for online orders placed by fellow first responders.
Looking Ahead
As the business continues to grow, Beeson is optimistic about Iceland Cooler's future. "We've had incredible support from the local community and beyond. I'm excited to see where we can take this brand," he adds.
